In 2017 we were fortunate to have a new member with considerable woodworking experience. He has been sharing his knowledge and skills with members of the group who are interested in the woodworking side of our activities.
We have been constructing a range of products for sale such as bird tables, hedgehog hotels and planters. This has helped us produce some income for our group.
More recently we quoted for a large project to convert a space at the back of a property into a therapeutic garden area. Currently the area is covered in concrete and hardcore but we have drawn up plans to convert the space including three seating areas, two raised beds, two decked areas with the remainder of the floor space paved.
This project is good for us as, apart from dealing with the client, we have also had the experience of working with builders merchants, Accrington and Rossendale College and local planning authority as the garden is in a conservation area.
We are also having to upgrade the quality and quantity of power tools that we have. Apart from having more people taking part in woodworking activities we also need more professional quality tools for these larger projects. We are grateful to the Eric Wright Charitable Trust for providing us with a grant towards the cost of expanding our woodworking capability.
